STORIES FROM THE FRONTLINE.

Meet Mira.

Mira is a Black, wheelchair user that lives in Los Angeles in a neighborhood that has historically been disinvested and neglected. Like many of their neighbors, Mira lives in soft story wood frame building, a quintessential type of housing for many low-income and fixed-income folks across urban California. These buildings are very susceptible to earthquakes.

STORIES FROM THE FRONTLINE.

Meet Paula.

Paula is a single mom that lives in a mobile home in a rural community in the Sierra foothills. Mobile homes are an affordable housing option for many low-income families in California. Although they are particularly vulnerable to wildfires, they don’t receive much attention. Paula struggles to pay bills and keep food on her table. She does not have any money to protect her mobile home from a wildfire.
